Getting to know Brenda
Minister Brenda F. Troy is the wife of Dr. Keith A. Troy, Pastor of the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio. They have five (5) children, Myeshia, Tiffane, Andre, Shanece and Kendall and seven (7) grandchildren. Brenda is a native of Warren, Ohio.
Minister Troy was educated at both Kent State and The Ohio State Universities, respectively, where she was a Banking and Finance major. Brenda is a graduate from the American Baptist Church Lay Pastor’s Training program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Leadership from Newburgh Theological Seminary. She was licensed in the Gospel ministry in 2005 at New Salem Baptist Church. Minister Troy is a versed business owner and has extensive experience in the Banking, Human Resources and the Customer Service industries. God has blessed her to deliver training to more than 10,000 in the areas of spiritual growth, personal and professional development, business administration and organizational management. She also established a family owned foundation, MTASK, to leave a legacy to her children.
Minister Troy serves as the director of New Salem’s Promiseland Children’s Ministry, the Hospitality Department, Puppets of Praise Ministry and Women of Power (WOP) Ministry. Through her passion to serve women, she founded the Women of Power Retreat and Conference Series, and in 2012 she established Sankofa House, a safe haven for women that are coming out of prison re-entering society and the WOP Clothing Boutique, a clothing bank providing free clothing to women, men and children. In addition, she provides weekly street outreach to women to escape from modern day slavery of Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence, and those who may have been infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. The ministry is the liaison to connecting victims to social service providers in the United States as well as internationally.
She helped to establish a community collaborative with over twelve agencies to deliver programs to community residents. This outreach has allowed her to counsel more than 2500.
Minister Troy is very active in the community and has served tirelessly with various organizations, including Action for Children, Franklin County Children Services, Lott Carey Board of Foreign Missions for Women and the Lott Carey Teenage Sex Trafficking International Committee. This committee’s focus is to help young teenage girls to escape from prostitution. She is also instrumental in organizing the International Children’s Outreach Ministries (ICOM) and Project Adventure (Job Placement for Youth Services) and served diligently with the Center for Puppetry Arts, CHOICES Domestic Violence, a shelter for abused women, and the Baptist Minister’s Wives and Widows.
Ministry Troy has received numerous awards for outstanding dedication to serving women, youth and children. She has preached in Italy, Botswana, South Africa and Germany ministering to women involved in Human Trafficking all over the country and Columbus vicinity, as part of her calling to women and children, and continues to spearhead annual workshops, both in the states and internationally, to provide information on social skills that serve as impediments to realizing spiritual goals, growth, and espousing Christian values.

On Friday morning at 10:30 a.m., Brenda will hold a seminar in conjunction with Ellyn Waller called Abolitionist in Action: Hands on Anti-Human Trafficking Efforts. Brenda will also be on a panel on the topic of Human Trafficking on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
