The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were set up by the United Nations to provide a framework for the entire international community to work together towards a common end, making sure that human development reaches everyone, everywhere. The MDG goals only went to 2015 and were not fully realized. The UN has since set up the Sustainable Development Goals in an effort to "end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all." We are leaving these MDG Bible studies on this site for now because they can still be helpful in our desire for understanding ways we can be used of God to make a difference in this world of inequality.

It is important for us to consider what God's word says about these matters and how we should respond to the needs around us. John Stott in his book, Radical Disciple, makes the following statement:

“But because Jesus is Lord, we have no right to pick and choose the areas in which we will submit to his authority.”

As Christ followers, our basis for action is not in response to the call from earthly leaders, but a response to God's Word and the Spirit's leading. Let's come before the Lord and examine our heart and His Word and respond accordingly.
